Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s dive a little deeper into the topic of dental emergencies. Sometimes you may not even be sure if what you’re experiencing is actually an emergency or if it can wait for a regular dental appointment. Here are some of the most common dental emergencies so you know when to seek urgent care if you have them:

Knocked-Out Tooth

You’ve seen those hockey players with one or more of their teeth knocked completely out. We hope that never happens to you, but sometimes an injury to the mouth can leave someone unexpectedly in that situation. There is a window after a tooth gets not knocked out where it’s possible that it can be put back in place so it’s important to seek professional care immediately.

Cracked or Broken Tooth

Maybe it was some kind of dental injury or maybe you just bit down on something too hard. It’s also possible that a cavity left your tooth weakened to the point that it didn’t take much for it to crack or break. Having a cracked or broken tooth is also considered a dental emergency because you don’t want to wait until the damage extends further or the pain you feel increases.

Loose Tooth

The only teeth that should ever be loose are baby teeth. Your adult, or permanent, teeth are supposed to last you the rest of your lifetime. If one of your permanent teeth is loose, this is definitely a serious concern and could be a sign of a far-progressed infection.
